No Computer Day

cd733ec0aaeac082f1dd3a52bf8c1603.jpg.cfGood morning my friends. I hope you are having a good week so far.

Today I have three kids to watch. And I’m making it a no Computer Day for the kids. Partly because of nessessity, partly for them. Yesterday my dog decided to chew and eat my charger cord to my you laptop. So until the new cord arrives we will other be using my laptop. And so I thought, let’s just make today a no Computer Day. And guess what? No complaints about it so far! I’miss pretty sure they will survive.

The three year olds are playing the Legos and my old Playskool dollhouse together. Oh, the conversations they are having with each other are priceless! So far I have not had to interfere or suggest new games. They are playing well together, no arguments, sharing well, and their imaginations are amazing!! I am looking forward to seeing what else they come up with!

Enjoy your day, and perhaps have a no Computer Day with your family?

Good evening, friends ๐Ÿ™‚

I am, I hope, officially back. Is this winter beating you with viruses the same as it has been with me? One after another? I have been healthy for almost two weeks now and am hoping to keep it this way from now on (as long as possible anyway). I hope you are all on a healthy road as well.

Winter is coming to its end and the snow is melting. The spring wind is howling through, the birds are singing in the mornings, the geese have been spotted more than once. Mud is everywhere, including in my house, lol. A perfect time of year to bundle the kids up and go on “hikes” through the backyard. With a three year old and a five month old a backyard trek is a hike, lol. I am so happy I bought a backpack carrier for the baby. She happily sits against me in the front and gets to look all around and my hands are free. And what an exploration we get to have. Think about it. It is almost like a treasure hunt and an exploration and a nature dig all in one. We get to see the first signs of flowers coming to life; the tiny bits of bright green tips popping through the ground. Pinecones found on the ground can become a new collection in a basket or be used for art projects (paint them as owls or other birds, trees, or anything else you can imagine up), we get to see birds building up nests and the geese flying overhead. As the days go on the little buds in the ground will blossom and we can pick them or plant more. How about building a bird feeder near a window at the house? Making a Fairy Garden? Don’t forget about the classic outdoor things…. climbing trees, races, I Spy, Cloud Creations (What does this cloud look like?), Tag…. The possibilities really do seem endless. We live in a technology driven world, but let’s not forget the world itself and all it has to offer.

What things do you and your friends and family like to do outdoors and on nature hunts? I would love to hear about your adventures ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s a Bird Nest, It’s a Plane, It’s a…. Cardboard Box?

Good Morning, Friends,

I hope you are having a great day and all is well in your world. Today, in my world, (although I am a day late in my Creativity post, and I apologize for that. I will get my schedule down better. I will!)

Anywho, last week while babysitting, there came a knock on my door and when I opened it (after checking who it was. Safety first!) my brother and sister-in-law came in with a delivery for one of my “kids”….a cardboard box!!!! And not just any cardboard box, but a REALLY BIG box! To make the experience as fun as possible my brother and sister-in-law delivered it with a paper that needed to be signed and the delivery needed to be confirmed, there was a disclaimer as to what the box could be used for. My brother said it best but it went something like this, “Be careful, this box can be used as a submarine, a spaceship, a pirate ship, a fort, a tunnel, it can move at the speed of light. It holds much power.” Brilliant!

I love how we can take something so simple, a box that is brought from a company we order from, no matter what size, and create something so imaginative! This week so far the box has been a cow. And the inside of the box? Why, that’s where the baby is inside its mommy, of course! I love the imagination of children. There is no end to it.

So, next time you get a box in the mail and think about tossing it out, think first of all the possibilities it holds ๐Ÿ™‚

A Miniature Treasure Hunt

Good Evening, Friends,

I hope your day has gone well. It is nighttime here at my house and as the critters sleep and the stars twinkle I am thinking about my day. Every day is creative for me. Why, you may ask? Well, I love creativity. I think life would be boring without it. For as long as I can remember I have had a very vivid creativity. Whether it was playing dress up as Scarlett O’Hara or Laura Ingalls Wilder, if I was a waitress or a bank teller, if I was a teacher or a rescue 911 telephone operator, I was playing in some world. Paper dolls, barbies and my dollhouse. Designing and making jewelry. Finger paintings, notecards, painted wooden signs. I like to try all sorts of things. It helps keep things fresh, right? So, how does imagination play into m day to day life now?

I babysit. Lol, that should explain it. You need a pretty good imagination when babysitting. And today was no exception. I still have my Playskool Dollhouse from the early 1990’s and the kids I babysit like to play with it. The only downside right now is that I still have not found the furniture or people that go with the dollhouse. The upside? You learn to get creative. If you are in the same or similar situation I found myself in here are some ideas….

*Do you have Legos? Awesome! How about Lego furniture? There is a Lego couch in the dollhouse living room now.

*Doilies make great rugs, tablecloths, curtains, and blankets. Which brings me to….

*Need a bed? How about using Legos for those as well, or, like we did today, use cardboard jewelry boxes. The soft insert makes a great mattress too!

*How about a bookcase? You can use a cardboard jewelry box for that too. Use the bottom part for the bookcase itself, for the shelves use the top part of the box, cutting strips of it to fit the width and length of the bottom part. You can add a dab of glue for support. Obviously, it cannot hold very heavy items but it still works well for small, lightย items.

These are just a few ideas I have come up with helping the kids decorate the dollhouse. I hope they spark some ideas for you next time you are hanging out with kids, or have a dollhouse of your own. If you have any ideas to share for decorating a dollhouse using household items, I would love to hear about them. Please feel free to post a comment ๐Ÿ™‚
